ABOUT CAR/RICK RAPTORS
CAR/RICK Raptors is a Middle School Ice Hockey Club. Our Mission is to provide a fun, positive, and educational environment for middle school aged children to play and excel at ice hockey. We will compete against other area Middle School Ice Hockey Clubs in a non-league format.
CAR/RICK Middle School Hockey Club (MSHC) is a private, non-profit, ice hockey club formed for youth in 6th to 8th grades. The Ice hockey club was formed by ideas from a group of Frederick Victory Coaches. The Club is open to all youth residing in Frederick or Carroll Counties. There is a tryout process and this could be different each year based on player numbers. The first year in existence there were 50+ youth that tried out. Two Raptors teams were formed along with a developmental team. Skate Frederick Ice went down and we had to fold the 3rd team, still getting 22 games between the other two teams.

Coach
Keith Zurbuch
Coach Keith Zurbuch is a Level 4 USA certified coach with nearly 10 years experience. Keith has coached and/or coordinated Victory Hockey teams/age levels, ran skills clinics, coached with Hagerstown Bulldogs, and for 2025-26 season will be coaching for the Frederick Freeze.
Coach Keith is a proud Father of Kyle, Katie and Mason all of which play hockey. Personally, Keith has been playing hockey for 26 years. He started the Baltimore Fighting Blue Crabs at Ice World in Bel Air, MD and is still currently playing at Skate Frederick in the Men's League.
Obviously Keith has a passion for the game of Hockey as well as working and teaching Youth. On a professional level Keith is a Physical Therapist and has served as a Strength and Training Specialist, at one point training Buffalo Sabres Staff while working to pay for PT school.
Andrew Messmore
Coach Andy has been playing or coaching hockey for most years of my adult life. Andy has held various coaching roles with both the TI and Freeze programs at many different age groups. Last season I was the head coach for 14U LA. This season Andy will be head coaching 14U UA and assistant coaching 16U UA for travel hockey.
Andy absolutely loves coaching hockey and is excited to be afforded the opportunity to do so again. Andy also coaches the Frederick County Co-Op High School team and plays in Skate Frederick's mens league, so as most people will note, he pretty much lives at the rink.

Bill Kinloch
Coach Bill is a Tech Ed Teacher at Oakdale Middle school and also a type 1 diabetic. Bill grew up playing hockey for the Huskies in Howard County, MD and continued his hockey career playing ACHA Division 2 at UMBC. While playing with UMBC he became the Head Coach of his high school hockey team and later was an assistant coach at UMBC after graduation. Bill spent the last several seasons coaching his youngest son Conner (13) on his Frederick Victory and Freeze teams. Bill also helps out with the Ice Dogs Special Hockey team at Laurel where his oldest son Will (15) plays. This year he will also be helping to coach the Frederick Gargoyles special hockey team and the Frederick County Co-Op High school team.

John Nuckols
Coach John began coaching hockey in the 2019–2020 season, bringing a fresh perspective from his South Texas football background and a deep respect for the game’s physical demands. Since then, he has served as both head and assistant coach with the Victory program and joined the Frederick Freeze last year. This season, John proudly supports the Freeze as an assistant coach for the 12U UA, 14U LA, 16U UA, and Girls 16/19U travel teams.
John is committed to developing our young athletes—building their skills, confidence, and teamwork to prepare them for high school hockey and beyond. The bonds they form now will carry them through future challenges both on and off the ice. John is always around the rink and happy to connect before, after, or between sessions

Justin Gore
Coach Justin has been involved in playing and coaching youth sports for most of his life, having played basketball, baseball, and soccer growing up. He discovered hockey nearly ten years ago as an adult and quickly developed a strong passion for the game. He has been playing ever since and is now a USA Hockey Level 1 certified coach with two years of youth hockey coaching experience. He has also coached youth baseball and soccer, bringing a well-rounded athletic background to the rink. As a father of four, he values creating a positive, fun, and supportive environment for young athletes. He focuses on long term athletic development, teaching fundamentals, building confidence, and fostering a love for the game. His coaching style emphasizes effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork both on and off the ice.
